We opposed the Governor's "Strategic Water Supply," an outrageous plan to use public money to fund treatment and re-use of fracking waste, a process lacking scientific evidence of safety and necessity. We won, defeating five enabling bills in the 2024 legislative session, but the next fight is taking place now at the Water Quality Control Commission where the administration is pushing a rule to enable fracking waste reuse.

We won in PNM's 2023 rate case, with a finding of imprudence at Four Corners, among other issues, resulting in an 8% rate decrease for PNM customers. But we have appealed the final order to the NM Supreme Court because despite a finding of imprudence the PRC disallowed only 32% of the $240M harm they found to ratepayers because of PNM's poor decisions. 

New Energy Economy has intervened at the PRC to oppose the New Mexico Gas Company's plan to build a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) liquefaction, storage and regasification plant that would endanger surrounding communities, prove not cost effective for ratepayers and lock-in more fossil fuel investment, slowing the necessary transition to clean energy.
